• A Watch.
    Any self respecting runner or athlete should own their own watch. I recommend a Timex Ironman watch because it takes laps/splits and offers a lap recall function. Many runners have GPS runners with various features. Although cool, they can be pricey and not a neccesity.
  • An Activity Log.
    It's easier to discover what works best for your body if you track your activity on a regular basis. A notebook, or excel document works wonders, and is free of charge. There are also established sites like Garmin, Runninglog, or Strava with activity logs. Finally, you can always find a preformatted, printed log online or in various super stores.
